canada | landscape photography

These are pictures from a fabulous trip to the eastern part of beautiful Canada, where we spent a week with Amy’s family on Kaminiskeg Lake. It was the first time Maurice had the chance to meet our new niece Samantha, so it was extra special, since this was a place Amy’s family has been going for more than 20 years. The pictures with the green deck show the view of the lake from the front yard … spectacular and breathtaking and oh so peaceful. It was rather chilly the week we were there, so we snuggled by the fire playing board games and Wii and even made s’mores with coat hangers … fun! One day we took a drive through the Algonquin National Park. Though we didn’t see a moose, we found some amazing vistas and took a fun trek through a bog. Canada is a beautiful country, full of rocks, trees and water. The seasons were well on their way to changing, with a few signs like the leaves turning vibrant colors and falling to the earth. We hope you enjoy the postcards!

the tao of lou | personal work

Our dog Lou is very zenful. He’s my master in many ways, most of them spiritual. He reminds me to take some time each day to spend with those you love, to always express sincere happiness when encountering people you know, to find peace and relax whenever a comfortable seat presents itself, and to never, ever miss a chance to go outside. I decided to celebrate his teachings by creating a little photo book with some of my favorite quotes from the Tao Te Ching. These are but a few of my favorite pages. I was so excited to receive my first copy. Of course I asked for someone to model, and what do you know, Mr. Lou himself was more than willing to pitch in a paw to help. Isn’t he cute? Gotta love that dog!

10 things you probably didn’t know about maurice

1. Maurice started riding bikes when he was 1 year old because his dad didn’t want to pay for the braces to correct the bowing of his legs. Good thing, because later in high school he raced BMX for Schwinn as a B Pro. That means you don’t get paid : )

2. Maurice loves metal, heavy heavy metal. Not the kind you make cars with either. His favorite bands are Mastadon, Ac/Dc, Motorhead, and Iron Maiden. Awwww, yeah!

3. Maurice has five electric guitars and wishes he had more.

4. Maurice went to school for anthropology, and minored in film, sociology, psychology and women’s studies. He was in school for a loooooooooong time : )

5. Maurice’s beer of choice is Guinness. He’s ready to go to an Irish pub at any time : )

6. Maurice’s favorite tv show is Top Gear. BBC America. Favorite character: The Stig.

7. Maurice’s favorite Starbucks drink is a vanilla bean frappuccino.

8. Maurice’s job history includes pecan retriever and salesman (first job ever), McDonald’s cashier (awesome), ice cream scooper extraordinaire, roofing technician (fell off once, luckily he was tied in), electrician (electrocuted five times in one summer), bicycle messenger (hit by five cars, including one police cruiser), and burrito artist and bean inspector.

9. On a boy scout hike one summer, Maurice’s troop got lost in the north Georgia mountains and walked in a circle for 7 hours with his fearless leader, who refused to read the map and bring a compass : ) Right on.

10. Maurice loves zombie movies. Good thing his wife does too. He is currently reading The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. Did you know that super short hair and tight clothes are ideal for hand-to-hand combat with a zombie? File that away under useless information : )
